Here's a picture of the model of the icefield in the Visitor's Center. The 4 mile / 3000' climb hike we did is the little dotted black line on the right, just over the "Exit Glacier" words.
Here's Exit Glacier which is one of the smaller ones in the icefield. It was an amazing view of the icefield from the top (pictures to come later in this post) and it's just mind boggling to think about that much ice and snow and how much power it all has etc. etc.
That picture was taken from about half way up the hike and every where you looked you could see amazing mountains and glaciers.
You couldn't really get too close to the Glacier during the hike, but here's a zoomed in picture of all the crevasses and what not, its hard to even comprehend how wide and deep they are from that far away.
There were some beautiful wildflowers along the way too, we tried to figure out what kinds they were... so we think they were Aster, Fireweed, Lupin, Wild Geranium and some Forget Me Nots :) Those are all pretty typical wildflowers though...
Then we got to the top and had an awesome view of the Harding Icefield. Those are tops of mountains trying to peak out of snow/ice... crazy!
And of course we had some fun while hiking :) We celebrated our making it to the top Rocky Style-esque...
and then, I got trapped in the snow...
The last fun part of the hike was some random wildlife sightings... Mountain Goats...
A marmot...
A shrew... (he was so tiny!)
And last, but not least... a porcupine! Apparently, it really isn't that common to see a porcupine...
What a great day! This was definitely my favorite hike we've done to date. Can't wait to do it again next year!!
